It's pretty obvious he doesn't really know what he's doing with this technology nonsense. He definitely looks a bit worse for wear--he's bleeding visibly and appears to have scorch marks all over his face and upper torso

[And before long, Rukia traces his reiryoku and finds a distinctly well cooked looking Abarai Renji examining a piece of his hair for burn marks.]

[Dammit, he's so gonna need a haircut. He's singed half his ponytail. He glances up when a familiar bloom of reiatsu nears, and when she rounds the corner and calls his name, he really can't help the big stupid grin that splits his face.]

Rukia! [He takes her shoulder when she's close enough and squeezes it a little, as if to make sure she's really real, and then shakes his head.] Man, is it good to see you.

[Not that he was actually worried. Nope. Espada always lie, after all. Right. Not worried at all.]

[She grins back, because the feeling is most certainly mutual. She would knock him off for the shoulder squeeze, but he's hurt and she's not about to aggravate his injuries until she knows they're not life threatening.]

Idiot, don't you have more faith in me than that?

[But his relief is palpable and she nudges his side gently with her elbow.]

[He clears his throat and lets go of her shoulder then, folding his arms with a harrumph.]

Can't a guy just be worried about his friend without catching flak for it anymore? Jeez.
