Maybe, but if you don't, you might see us around the city in later days, hm?

[ Her voice is warm. Friendly, but unassuming, and tinged with the evening's calm. ]

Your voice is pleasant, but not one I can say I recognize. My name is Valeria, and you are...?

[Oh, someone new.]

Sousuke Aizen. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance.

I'm sure I'll see you in one place or another, yes. Although it would be difficult to know that I had, considering that I don't know your face.

These devices, convenient as they are, can make for terribly awkward instances of double introductions.

The pleasure's mine.

[ And the video function is activated promptly once the Forge is set down on the table across from the dark-haired Turk. The book in front of her is politely closed, dark eyes looking intently at the camera. ]

I take it you're a new arrival, Mr. Aizen?

[New is definitely a relative term in this case. He arrived some time ago, after all, but it's been so interesting watching people run around, keeping notes in his head on who knows whom, and what they do. Their purpose, their loyalties.]

[But there's no reason to go into that and all manner of reasons not to.]

That certainly solves the problem, Valeria. Please, simply Aizen is fine.

And yes, you could say that I'm a new arrival. Does that mean that you are not?

Thinking of absent friends?

You could say that, yes. They were old... allies of mine, you see.

I'm sure we all have a few of them.

I dare say we do.

I hope these comrades of yours are well.

Somehow they manage to survive more often than not.

[Even Momo managed to cling to life like a little parasite. It would be cute if it weren't so disappointing.]

May I assume there are old comrades you think of as well, then? Perhaps missing friends?

I do not know whether I should be disturbed by the amount of free time one has available to attend such things or not. We had little time for such trivial things as celebration at home, as survival was the utmost priority. When the sky erupted in something, it was never a thing of beauty.

Hm.

That sounds like a terribly depressing place to spend one's time. It's always important to take the time to appreciate one's surroundings. The beauty of moonlight on snow, or sparkling on the equally white sand. The slow motion of the clouds overhead, passing over the pale blue of a spring morning.

Truly, these are things that bring pleasure, even into a life otherwise marked by conflict.

Of course, this isn't meant to imply that I think it's reasonable to spend a great deal of time in idle complacence, either.

When it is all one knows, they cannot realize there is anything... missing from their lives. It is only during times like these where one appears to have all the time in the world that it would be acknowledged.

Unfortunately, when one has spent their life in conflict, the sudden lack of such is a bit jarring.

Really, now.

[Isn't she one of those women? The blonds with the silver-hair and their alien energy?]

[Which means he now knows a bit more about their environment. One marked by conflict, it seems. A warzone? One in which they had far fewer opportunities for rest than did the shinigami, or at least the seated officers.]

I can imagine that would be true. Losing one's path is always disturbing. It tends to leave a person searching for a new purpose in life. Or at least floundering without one.

However, humans are adaptable as a species. I'm sure that most adjust, in time.

'Erstwhile comrades'...?

You have a weird way of putting things.

Is there another way that I ought to have phrased it?

[He sounds a little amused.]

Something less formal, I guess. You might put some people off.

That would be true regardless of how I put it, wouldn't it?

Friends?

[He pauses at that, and smiles a little.]

Hm. Yes, I'm sure they would. We did have lovely times together, after all. In some cases, a century of shared experiences.

A century?

[That takes him by surprise, though he quickly realizes that it shouldn't. He just needs to remind himself that just because someone looks human doesn't necessarily mean that they are human.

It's pretty ironic. He laughs sheepishly.]

You're really lucky.

But hey, it's not like you're going to forge them or they're going to forget you. [Understatement.] And now you have a chance to make some new friends. Maybe even look out for them.

[...definitely smiling.]

That's true. In fact, there are a few people here from my world already, including the one closest to me.

[Gin. Although there is certainly some irony behind his use of the word.]

[Maybe even universe of irony]

[Then again, if there's one thing Gin can be counted on to be, it's close to Aizen's back.]

There's even someone who I knew to be dead in my own time. I suppose there's little reason to assume more of those I know will not follow.
