PLAYER-RUN PLOT: tourney / ren fair.
YO DUDES. If you ever check the game calendar you may have noticed I am running an event in May? I finally bothered to get mod permission for it. It's a medieval tournament cum Renaissance faire run by Arthur, and though it won't happen until May 11, it has so many ways for you and your characters to get involved, so I want to start talking about it early!
It's a tournament of arms! Divided into four parts.
The Fencing Tournament
Characters sign up and are paired off, and fight! The winners are paired off again and fight, until we have a champion! Swords and armor provided. Alternate weapons including magic or special abilities are banned. The winners of each fight will be decided OOCly by you guys!
The Joust
Characters ride horses at each other and splinter lances on shields. Once again: sign up, get paired off, win, move up the lists to be the champion! Winners will be decided OOCly by you guys.
The Archery Contest
A bunch of targets are set up and characters may bring their own bow or use the ones provided. A panel of judges give points based on skill and style. The winner is the archer with the most points after three rounds. Trick shots encouraged!
The Melee
No rules, no holds barred, mass battle. Last man standing wins. The winner will be picked by a random number generator and you can sort out how your characters get knocked out.
In addition, thanks to stakesthings and girl_unlocking, there will also be a ren-faire atmosphere surrounding the tournament! Be entertained by minstrels, or a puppet show. Have your fortune told! Find out what it feels like to be put in the stocks! Take a pony ride! Eat a haunch of meat and drink a jug of ale! Wear a silly hat, or a corset with a tacky zipper. Buy a kiss at the kissing booth! Or just go on the carnival rides.
There are several ways you can get involved.
The first and most obvious: sign up. A tournament needs participants!
Secondly, we need funding! Thanks to newly_knighted's ingenuity, if you run a business in Anatole and want some advertising, you can sponsor your own champion or donate money towards running the tournament as a whole. Arthur is also encouraging sponsorship from Native businesses.
Also, we will need staff. Here is a list of vacancies but if you have an idea of your own, offer it up!
Kissing Booth: Lust. (offer kisses for money)
"Magician": (magic can be stage tricks or real.)
Puppeteer: smolder_proof!
Minstrel: chairyontop
Town Crier: becoming_gau
Fortune Teller: thenobledie
Any unfilled positions will be Native NPCs.
Finally: attending, cheering on your champions, taking part in the log, posting about the event...
You're welcome to do all four of these things! Or none of them if your character isn't really the in-person type.
April 28 IC sign-ups for the tournaments will be available and advertising/recruitment will begin.
May 5 Sign-ups close OOCly ( so I can chart out who fights who! )
May 8 Lists go up on the OOC, winners are decided.
May 11 Action log for the entire event goes up! IC, sign-ups close and the fencing tournament begins.
May 12 Fencing tournament concludes with the ~championship battle~
May 13 Jousting tournament.
May 14 Archery contest in the morning. Melee in the afternoon. Feast/party/award ceremony in the evening.
May 15 Business as usual.
