Reading through LJ today and I saw a post on the Fursuit Tourney. It is amazing to me that out of a tournament of soo many awesome suits (and suiters who make them magical) that I am in the top four for approval rating and such along side the names of Takala, Frisbee, and Kodi. All I can say to this is thank you so much, all of you for voting for ( Read more... )

You've got an adorable suit, which is only part of the equation. Sounds like you are striving to act lively and have fun, which are key to rounding out the character.

I hope to see ya round AC! Best wishes July 12, where you'll face the winner of Nekomon and Flagstaff, both very fun performers. The Tournament is just a game, the real winners are those who enjoy suiting to the most, have fun, and spread the sense of fun to those around them.

Thanks! I am trying to be just that. In all my life, I have never been that sort of person. I am timid, shy and usually in a corner somewhere. Trying to come out of my shell a bit when I am in suit and just not be boring. I mean, squirrels are highstrung, no? :P

In any case, it is just fun and I wouldn't be too upset losing at any stage from now on since they are all awesome suits. Hope to see you at AC! ^^

I was really shy as a kid! Suiting is something that really helped me a lot. There's empowerment from being in a costume, the guarding of personal identity. I'm touching on some of these topics at my AC panel Friday 1pm at the Pennsylvania room (where the smaller dances are held): "The Power of Pretend: Fursuit performance for the non-performer"

It's a new approach to performance, more about why we wear suits, what goes on in our minds, and how to harness imagination and pretend. A big secret? My suits aren't me - they're my friends I bring to life. The character separation allows me to escape into their mindset and not be worried about "Oh why is Jimmy crawling on the floor or hugging that flagpole?"

If you can make it, awesome, if not, no worries - it's a big, busy con.

I will definitely try to make your panel. Sounds like some good pointers and yes, being behind a suit does seem to help me be less worried about doing stuff I normally wouldn't do. :)
