Stand up. Fight back.

Overslept this morning, so I missed David Cobb's speech to the crowd at Malcolm X Park...and I do mean "crowd". The park occupies two or three blocks, and it was full up to the gills. It was at that time, while standing on a park bench, that I realized my digital camera was out of juice and wouldn't even turn on. Sonnybishgohelldammit.

You forgot about the stupidest part of the inaugeration proceedings: the warnings not to look directly at the Dubya.

Well he's an ugly sort of monkey-face, so that could be seen as good general advice, but did they say WHY NOT ????

Even a cat may look at a king ..... tho when the emperor has no clothes, this kitty would prefer to advert her eyes at times.

Running out of nursery rhymes and fairy tales now - must go - Karen

Unfortunately they didn't give a reason, but I assume it's the same reason why apes take direct looks as a challenge and start throwing feces.

Yeah, either that or we'd see the edges of the bluescreen flicker in the light.

No, just kidding, I'll go with the primate hypothesis. There is a smell of shit in the air alright.

Ack! Sorry, I didn't know!

I will be back there sometime soon, 'cause I'd love to see you...and go back to that chili place. It was neat.

'I don't think that I've felt less like an American in my life than I did at that time.'

that made me cry.

Like tacnukesoul said, abc, along with other mainstream media channels, surprisingly covered some of the protesters. I was quite amused watching the invited guests have to walk through the demonstration-which is probably one of the reasons the protesters got any attention at all. (other than the flag burning, of course)

I did see an NBC crew doing a stand-up on the corner as we turned onto I St., but as with most of these events, it was local public access and Indymedia who were there in the crowd, asking people what they thought. (Abby said she also saw a camera crew from Democracy Now!The woman from Vermont was rather dotty; after asking my sister a few questions, she questioned a guy next to her - and was well into the interview before realizing that he was wearing a press card ( ... )

Damn, that's powerful stuff. Makes me ashamed to have been down here in NC with a cold, instead of there. I am reminded, though...if this is anything like the last Gilded Age, I'd love to know the avearage debt load of those Bushtwits.

efbq had a cold, too, and didn't go. It was damned cold out there. Don't feel bad about it.

I think people should do what they can, where they are. Speak out about things, and make sure that you're heard. Find things you can change, and organize to change them.

Well, the BBC has some good pictures of protesters on their news site: Democrats defiant over Bush term. (I also chose to laugh rather than cry over their headline yesterday, something to the effect of "Bush vows to fight world tyranny", that was just to surreal.)
