The Bechdel-Wallace test is a measure of how inclusive a film is to women. After a post in which anw considers how many of the IMDB's top 25 films would pass the test, which requires the following

Shaun counts if you include, erm, the brief hellos that Shawn's group do with Yvonne's? And Serenity definitely does, there's the scene with Kaylee and Inara in the photo, if nothing else, and I think Kaylee and River might have a moment?
It really is sad to see how few movies pass. (TV shows, ridiculously enough, don't do much better, if you count episodes.) It makes me feel extra-glad for movies like Bring It On and But I'm A Cheerleader.
I'm defining conversation as an exchange, at least one sentence from each person. I'm going to be strict and say "hello" doesn't count. So I'm still pretty sure Shaun fails.
I wasn't sure about the Kaylee-Inara photo conversation, because I was pretty sure they were talking about Mal and Inara, mostly. Although I suppose there was some "I don't want you to leave!" stuff in there too. It probably does pass, I just can't be sure without rewatching it!
Lol I love Bring It On. And they talk about cheering all the time! Hurrah! The rest of my DVD collection fails miserably on even having more than one female character, for the most part. Which is really horrific!
I think Some Like It Hot passes, not because the male leads dress up as women (so doesn't count!) but because of the numerous conversations held between other women in the band, which we sort of glimpse. And doesn't Sugar talk to the band manager lady about her drinking at one point?
The Alien movies are the only saviour of sci-fi action, but I don't own them because I find Alien too scary! (I'm such a wuss!)
