Trailing the Sheep

This was the last of our three sheep dog weekends in a row.  For this trial I had to travel to the east side of Idaho, to Hailey.  Hailey is north of Twin Falls, so I had to go down and hit I84, then back north.  My internal compass is still way off!  When I'd check the direction to the Yukon's, I was often off!  Better not get lost!

Very well done!!! That sounds like Davy's experience with those sheep. His first run, he ended up in the stand off at the drive away panel but he seemed to learn something or we just got lucky with sheep the second day as we got them around the course and to the pen. Such a great feeling! And having the big crowds at the trial is fun. I think the first time dogs see sheep like that, they are bit in awe of them and a bit of "WTH are those!" Sonia seems to consistently be on the leaderboard with her dogs. Dianne said Davy was in the Dogs of Trailing calendar so she got me a copy. Hopefully we can get back to the trial next year!

Thanks! The first day a lot of dogs had problems with stalling out, but only a few had Rooster's problem of that's all she wrote. The second day they were better and on the last day, the scores really popped up. Sonia won with an 87 and the previous day, 70's were good and on the first day 60's were good. Whatever the reason, I'm sure glad we both had better experiences the second day! The crowds were fun and a bit weird. I was walking back to go gather sheep and called Rooster and a couple ladies, asked, "Is that Rooster?" like he was some kind of celebrity! Ha! Rooster has seen big fine wools before and hadn't had a problem. There was something different about them for sure. How fun that Davy made it into the calendar! I did hear that Trailing will be on the first weekend in October next year. I hope you can make it. I'm sure going to try!
