[Fic - Hunger Games] "A Fraction of the Light that Remains" (2/?)

Jun 23, 2012 23:26

Since last time we talked, I've gained employment, a summer school assignment on 3 days notice, and an unprecedented amount of stress.

I also got to see Glen Hansard. That was rocking.

Oh, and more fic.

'A Fraction of the Light that Remains' (2/?) )

This continues to be awesome, and it legit made me choke up a little. I liked how the Bad Days are contrasted with the Good Days, for all of them, and how the Good Days make them more conscious of how precious life is and of making the most of the things that matter the most.

Also, congratulations on gaining employment!

I think that is the best thing (and worst thing) Katniss and Peeta are left with: that every day is an absolute gift. I don't know that their kids will ever understand that to the extent their parents do (and I hope they won't), but I think that their acceptance of that will serve them very well as parents.

And thank you! :)

Good God, I don't know how to properly express how exquisite this story is--except to say I hope I can someday write something this good. Love.

Awww, thank you! That comment totally made my day!

But your writing is gorgeous, too, so be proud!

Awesome fic is awesome!

Just amazing to see this through the daughter's eyes. It makes me sad that her grandmother doesn't have more of a presence in her life, but it is what it is, I guess.

I can't wait to read more!

Congrats on the new job!

:)

I like using her as a lens into both how her parents have coped, but also how Panem as a whole is changing. In my head, Katniss's mother refuses to ever come to District 12 (too many memories) and Katniss has a difficult time going anywhere outside of 12.

The next chapter is written...I just need to edit it, which could be awhile.

Thank you!

Ahh. With two women both refusing to leave, kind of hard to much of anything in each other's lives. And I can't really fault both for their feelings either. Stupid Capitol! LOL.

Just as beautiful as Chapter 1! I'm curious to read chapter 3 now and see what you spotlight next time ~

Thank you!

Chapter 3 is going to change focus a bit so you can see the changes in Panem itself, rather than just Peeta, Katniss, and Haymitch.

It should be up sometime next week. :)

Oooooh! More of this fic! :) And we get to see glimpses of the extended Everdeen-Mellark family. I'm assuming this chapter's about a year after the first one?

Haymitch and the Goose Game... Lol! That is just the sort of thing he'd come up with for his surrogate grandchildren. And of course he doesn't want his surrogate children hearing about it -- it would damage his already questionable dignity.

And even a child can pick up on the former love triangle. She really is a smart little girl. I'm not surprised Johanna's rather awkward with her. I hope that eventually changes as the girl grows older.

Will we get to see her meeting Annie and the Odesta boy later? And I'm really looking forward to chapter 3.

This is about a year or so afterwards, though time is a bit fluid in this fic.

I unabashedly love writing Uncle Haymitch. The Good Game is one of my favorite parts of the whole fic. Also, Haymitch needs to let loose a bit. Also he may have...ahem...imbibed a bit before that episode.

I think she just spends a lot of time listening and anticipating her parents' actions. Mostly because she knows somewhere that they are kind of broken. Johanna is also fun to write. :)

I'm planning on writing Annie's Son in a later chapter. So, unless something very strange happens, you will get a glimpse of him at least (not sure about Annie).

See you when I post that!
