the more things change...

The Lord of the Rings wasn't my first fandom, but it was the first one I ever posted any fic online for*, way back in March of 03. It featured Celeborn and Galadriel's daughter, who fell in love with and married Haldir. I was a total LOTR book geek at the time**, but I set my fic in the movie-verse*** because Haldir died so I could set it right after they got married and it would be sad and poignant and heart-crushing to any one who'd watched Two Towers.

Just shy of ten years later, I'm finishing up a ficlet for The Hobbit*. It features a young Uncle Thorin and BB!-Fili and -Kili being cute. I am now a general LOTR movie geek**, but I'm purposely alluding to a couple of book spoilers in the fic because Thorin and Fili and Kili die, so I can make the fic, while generally fluffy and toothache-inducing, secretly sad and poignant and heart-crushing to anyone who's read it.

The other ficlet I'm working on, of course, is incestuous dwarf porn. So at least some things didn't stay the same.

*It was godawful.

**My friends and I learned Elvish! Sindarin v. Quenya was a hot topic of conversation during lunch (I still stan for Sindarin. It's prettier).

***Which, to be fair, I watched so many times my sister and I could literally quote the entirety of them (and I'm talking about the extended editions), which we actually did on one really memorable car trip which ended with my mom banning any mention of lord of the rings for months.

*It is slightly less godawful.

**Though I still love the books. Just ask me about my thoughts on Niënor and Túrin.

fandom is the best thing ever, the lord of the rings, im older than i thought, the hobbit, lotr
