Dan Simmons wrote Hyperion yes? That book was pretty incredible. The following books in the series weren't super great, but Hyperion was so well done, each short section seemed like it was written by a different author, but all closely connected, which is really hard to do.

Just finishing Hyperion. Excellent book indeed. I haven't read anything else by Dan. Lemme know what you think when you're done.

I've read Hyperion, Olympos, and Illium. He is in my opinion an extremely skilled writer especially talented in character development and illumination through action. Though a trifle more enamored of the flashback sequence than I think strictly necessary, he keeps the narrative interesting, the characters vibrant, and the details crunchy enough to really sink your teeth into.
Song of Kali won him an award, the World Fantasy I think, and has been on my to-read list for some time. Keep us posted how you liked it.

totally missed you posting this till now. I loved it, amazing work. I have now gone through three of his books in two week. All of them vary different, but all vary good. I started a fourth.
