What I remember from Dickens was kind of boring...
Never read Thomas Mann (which is a shame, really), just Klaus and he has a beautiful style. I'm not sure about his storytelling, but his style is brilliant. Informal pop literature style is fun, but sometimes I just crave something like... respect for grammar? Love for language? Something like this.
Really had fun with Wodehousian style, though. It's informal AND beautifully old-fashioned! And you can write a thousand words without having much of a plot.
I don't remember much of Dickens. ...Did I ever read Dickens? o_O;
Oh, Thomas Mann may be one fucking interesting Person in Real Life but srsly... His writing style... Woah. The page may end but not the sentence. I'd recommend "Death in Venice" cause it's short and you may get through it without any damages (like never ending phrases so no-one knows what you said at the beginning and much of blaaah blaaaaaah blaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah and the blubblegum in your hair. Srsly...). Oh, but be caution against old men stalking little boys. (Yeah, talking about Shota, but not the eeewwww way. Though it wasn't in any kind ... whatever.) You'd like his grammer? Not easy to follow but much to work on it? I like Golo Mann. Historian Fanboy <3
Wodehousian sounds like a nice, never ending tea party - love it! (You have some, aint't ya? May I borrow it someday? Though my pile of books is really scary...)
Weeeell... I thought about it. But. In the closet midlife crisis perving after some kid or other... I don't know. Not so much, I think. If I read him, I was gonna try Zauberberg. In case I get around to it.
Oh! Never ending tea party! Yes, that's just it. *-* Yeeees, come to the dark nostalgically fluffy side! We have Bertie. (Who's sweeter than cookies!) I can do better and give you two pdf-files right away (thanks@project gutenberg) My Man Jeeves: http://www.sendspace.com/file/f78e1e (collection of short stories) Right Ho, Jeeves: http://www.sendspace.com/file/s8c8l8 (novel) But of course you can have the books, too, if you like it.
Interessantes Maschinchen jedenfalls...
I only read the Fight Club novel by Palahniuk, which to be honest wasn't really that great. But he's a cool customer, so ... yeah. XD But yay for Wodehouse!
