He got suspended for that?!

Okay, the American educational system officially does not work, and needs to be dismantled and reorganized. Right now.

We must have gone back in time to the 1950s. In the 1970s I didn't say the "under God" part of the pledge, not realizing I couldn't be forced to recite the pledge. Also, I wasn't really disillusioned with my country at that time; that didn't start until my teens. Anyhow, no one had a problem with it, and that was in conservative areas like southern Missouri and Kansas.

Long story short: I think I'm truly scared of what we've become.

Being suspended for screwing around: Okay

Being suspended for screwing around with the Pledge: Not okay.

I'm reserving more judgement because in the majority of these types of news stories, the facts turn out to be completely different from what the original story presented.

Even for someone who doesn't know the high worship words, though, we've known for a couple years now that there is no Star Trek in the Pledge.

on the same strain as the rest of these, here's my experience: covert. I never said the pledge. because I don't. pledge, that is. not directly. but i stood up with everybody, and kept my mouth shut (kind of like praying in church, actually) and nobody ever said anything.
that poor kid. but it's fucking funny.
