It's an interesting idea. ^_^ I do wish they'd included mention of the "year without logins" though - although I suppose it can be difficult to tell, as some folks do indeed appear to lurk quietly, simply not posting anything. =:/

The problem, of course, with any kind of referral scheme is how to make using it not seem like just an incentive grab. There are several folk I'd love to see posting actively again (especially jessie_pup, though it'd be fun to see tania too), but then casually slipping in that if they use this code we both get some free paid time..

Still, a decent idea. Wonder why Cyrillic users are excluded, though?

I wonder if they'll ever just outright sell permanent accounts? I suppose it's a bit risky for a company to do so, even if they're the cost of a few years' normal paid time - once they've got that, there's maybe no more income from that user again, short of possibly icon extension packs or custom head icons.

Aye, I agree. I've also got folks I'd like to see back on LJ, though as I mentioned in news, most of those I know who left LJ did so because they moved on in life - new jobs, new family situations, new opportunities, less time for blogging. It's not gonna be the highest priority in life for most folks (and rightly so), and if more important things take up all your time, it'll have to be put on the back burner.

Good question. I imagine this is because LJ is popular among Cyrillic users in the first place, so they don't need to do promotions there (or not this one, anyway), and they want to avoid giving out a lot of paid time to people there who might otherwise well pay for it. But that's just me guessing.

The people I used to speak to here occasionally "wake up" and post something, but it gest lost in their usual stream of "My twitter feed" posts and I accidentally mentally screen them out...

Ah, people still have those? I've not seen any of those Twitter dump posts in quite a while, thinking about it.

Oh hell yes. They are just as annoying as they have always been.

I thought about gaming this... I'm in touch with a fair number of people who have LJ accounts and I could probably hit the maximum 5 months fairly easily. However it occurs to me I don't actually know WHY I WOULD WANT a paid LJ account anymore.

Good question - unless you like posting polls, want more userpics etc., there's probably no compelling reason to get one.

Well, you could get one to help the site out a bit and help it cover its running costs, but that wouldn't work if you're getting paid time for free. :)
