[meme] NPR top 100 books

Jan 01, 2012 10:32

Yeah, I know I never post, but have an ancient meme stolen from Amber, because mmmmmmm books. XD

NPR's top 100 SF/Fantasy books. Bold if you've read, bold+italicise if it's a book/series you've read part but not all of. (Also adding "(uh)" if I remember reading it but almost nothing about it, either because it was long ago or because it didn't ( Read more... )

books, meme

Ooh, I'm tempted to do this.

I have to say, I've read the Belgariad (and the follow up series) and some of the Drizzt books and I don't remember them either. Ditto Stardust and Caves of Steel.

Maybe they just aren't very memorable. XD

Ahaha! MAYBE.

Weird, your icon isn't displaying... /pokes custom layout

And yes, it's a nice meme. And doesn't fit on plurk very well. XD

Ahaha! And it's showing for me. Maybe LJ/your comp is just playing silly buggers with it.

Also, I realise from reading this meme that I own a lot more of those books than I have actually read. Maybe I should make a start on them. XD I guess it doesn't help that I've read stuff by the authors listed, but not those books... The White Dragon instead of Dragonflight, a bunch of Discworld books rather than Small Gods, etc.

I also can't quite work out why Stardust is on the list. I don't remember much about it, but I remember it being crappy. Perhaps it's a biased list of top books given movie releases and such. Oh well. XD

It's showing now! Okay.

I think it was just a thing with NPR listeners voting, so who knows why stuff is on it, really. Yeah, some of it is surprising. Ah well, it's a list of books. /pets it anyway

Yay for postings! Happy New Year!

I've read all but 18, 26, 32, 35, 43, 51, 53, 54, 58, 63, 64, 69, 71, 75, 77, 85-89, 93, 97-98.

Read everything by Asimov, Bujold(Cryoburn was a gut punch, but I re-read the whole gorram series after that one), McCaffrey, C.S. Lewis, Tolkein, Bradbury, Piers Anthony, Michael Moorcock, Heinlein, Zelazny, LeGuin...

Niven(acquired taste, most was kinda ...)
I cannot stand Kings stuff(acquired taste I guess)...ditto for Orson Scott Card.

I dare anyone to read Flowers for Algernon and not cry.

Happy New Year!

Yay, books!
You know, I'm not completely sure I've even read any of King's stuff. Never thought of him as SF/fantasy, I guess.

And that's probably why I still haven't read Flowers for Algernon - I'm still a bit in a "would rather avoid crying" mode.

LJ just forced me to refresh so many times I forgot what I was going to say.

/foams
//but yay meme?

Oh yes, the Space Trilogy by CS Lewis made me stabby-stabby. But I kept going out of sheer spite so I could say I finished them.

LOL, LJ.

I read the Space Trilogy back in early high school when I was still Catholic, so I ended up telling myself I'm supposed to believe in that stuff, though with much difficulty. Pretty sure it'd make me go super-stabby nowadays, though, yeah.

...is currently being finished. By Brandon Sanderson. I've heard it's awesome, but I'm to lazy / don't have time to read earlier books. :D

And by ‘being finished’ I mean he's just written first draft of the last part of last book and earlier parts are in the bookstores for some time.

Oh, good! I knew it was happening but hadn't checked whether it was all done yet. I'll wait until the last book comes out and then probably buy all of them, then.
(And then I'll probably have to re-read the whole thing... Maybe I better start now... ;) )

Yay! This is a totally cool meme! I like NPR and respect their literary opinion. It's nifty to see what you've read Nika. I have to do this meme.

Hayley ^_^
