wonder woman movie

If I was writing a Wonder Woman movie I'd borrow from Perez, Rucka and Simone, and start the film with a lengthy Star Trek-like prologue/action sequence that introduces the audience to the Amazon's mission and lifestyle, and Diana's place in that world ( Read more... )

Maybe I'm biased (or just sick of origin stories), but I have to put in to disagree.

It's Wonder Woman. We know who she is. Keep your pre-title backstory if you like, but really, everybody knows what's up. Wonder Woman has had a TV show and a top 10 comic, and cameos or roles in every DC cartoon. Just let her be Wonder Woman, already on top. JLA founder, Ambassador, things happen, she shows up, people gasp. The audience will pick it up.

Origin Story disease is keeping everybody in the woodshed as far as character development. And it's forcing constant recasting, inserting the most critical lifelong friend WW always had but we never saw before, and writers squabbling and scribbling over, trying to make their own mark on the character deep enough to stick. Embrace continuity.

Point--how many people don't already know the bones of her story? Comics ~intelligentsia are always moaning about how difficult it is to sell people on Wonder Woman, but if we just got on with the business of telling WW stories instead of mucking about with her origin, maybe more people would be interested.

A lot of people, tbh. All of my friends not into comics, my coworkers(past and present), my parents and those of my friends(one of the best things ever was watching my one friend's mother come into the room and start watching the animated movie with us, about halfway in, she loved what she saw and adored Diana), and many other people I've talked to.

Though I don't think that means that a movie would have to start from that point.

Not even the bare bones of Paradise Island? Time for reruns of the show!

Assuming it'd happen, I'd go for a two movie set-up type thing. First movie, she's established and everything. Show an audience who's only exposure to her are Halloween costumes, bondage, and the occasional sexist/crude joke why she's someone to respect through actions and words. Mixing Rucka with a dash of Simone.

At the end of the first movie, Ares is introduced. Start of the second movie, we get the backstory. The rest of the movie being a sort of show of her growth by seeing her 'fresh off the island' fight alongside the modern day.

Not sure if that'd make sense, but mostly, like outlaw poet it seems, I'm just kinda tired of redoing her origin over and over with no growth.

I think that's a solid idea. First movie establish her as a superhero. Maybe Cheetah as the villain, so we'd have a bit of mythology in there. Balance her as someone who fights monsters AND spies. Maybe also establish her as working ambassador. That's her Clark Kent-ian day job, but in Diana's case, she doesn't hide her actual identity. The other option is to have her working for something like the Dept of Metahuman Affairs, or just as a solo hero with government contacts. Then in the second movie, use her appointment as ambassador to help explore her origin and culture.

You can tell her origin without it being an origin story, as Hancock did.

I think they just need to re-vamp the whole idea for the movie. Forget the flag costume and really think about the Amazon culture, preferably make her a young warrior still trying to find her way (this would make the lasso testing something less navel gaze-y).
A future ruler in training, something like that.

Also, it would be interesting if she wasn't in Man's World intentionally, but was instead trying to get back home. Time travel? Themyscira is in other dimension?

(I do like your idea too.)

..ugh, I'm pretty sure I'm not making any sense here.
