I read The Consolations of Philosophy a few years ago, and enjoyed it. But not long after, I read a scathing review of de Botton's entire goal in bringing Lite Philosophy to the masses. I really don't know enough about philosophy in general to be able to critique one side or the other (the only other philosophy reading I've done is Sophie's World), and it scared me off of reading more.

I really want to, because (500) Days of Summer is probably my favorite movie of all-time, and it's a book Tom reads and gives to Summer in the film.
