Found this via ONTD_Feminism, which I am really loving these days.

Why would geeks be misogynistic? The average geek is not just male, but white, heterosexual, abled, and middle- to upper-class. With all that privilege, it's a bit unsurprising that geeks are reluctant to challenge the status quo. As feminism is most broadly understood as ( Read more... )

Yeah, I've had that one sitting in a tab and finally finished it. It's long, but there are a lot of good thoughts to it.

I've actually come across a lot of links on the subject this week! Was thinking about doing a round-up or something before you made this post. There's this one about male geeks trying to appropriate geekdom as something inherently masculine, a Lucy Knisley comic on the same subject (found via inclusive_geeks (which i only even found because of that _f post)), and this one I haven't read yet about making exclusive spaces more welcoming to women. The blogosphere's talking, and I couldn't be more excited!
