El Halcon Takarazuka musical

Oh, it seems... it might actually be working! I'm using a proxy to log in to livejournal from China, since the site is oddly blocked from inside the country. But I promised a running report on Takarazuka's production of "El Halcon" as news becomes available, so hopefully this will stay stable long enough for me to post! :D

A press conference was ( Read more... )

Yuzuki will play Red Gloria.

Uhm... is that a typo or are they actually changing his name? If I remember it was Luminous Red Benedict, not Gloria in El Halcon?
In any way, thanks for the great news... I probably won't get a chance to see it (if anything Japan is on the list for next year), but maybe it will be available as DVD at some point?

Hey! Sorry for not replying earlier. I'm not sure if you saw the other post I made right after this one, but I've been in China, and I was using a proxy to log in, which wouldn't let me actually edit my posts or reply to comments. I caught my mistake, but couldn't fix it. XD It's interesting, though. They've changed the "Benedict" to "Drake" for the show. More piratey?

I'm scrambling, but I don't think I'm going to be able to go either, which is a shame. It will definitely be on DVD (*knocks on wood*). The only Grand Theater shows they don't release on DVD tend to be productions of really famous Western musicals they can't get (or afford?) the copyrights for, like West Side Story. Anyway, the DVDs usually get released a week or so before the end of the Tokyo run, so it'll probably come out some time in early February. :D

I want that DVD. :) I saw your information about cost and how to get it elsewhere, caithion, so I've checked a little more. The service I use to buy Eroica thingies, Celga, can buy from Takarazuka. So if anyone else is interested, it should be possible to get it through there. I will try, anyway. :) If the DVD costs 10.500 yen, the fee to Celga would be 20 dollars and then shipping added to that. 10.500 yen I believe is about 90 dollars (115 yen to a dollar), so roughly 110 dollars plus shipping - though big disclaimer that this is just an example, I'm not promising anything and I can have misread/misunderstood something. (and just in case - this would be an an asian DVD, so if anyone do want to buy it remember the regions ...) Expensive, but still ...

Thanks for posting this!

There's also Crescent Shop, which can sometimes be cheaper than Celga, fee-wise. (It often depends on the price of the thing you're buying and whether it's from a store or an auction.) Also, used copies of shows tend to pop up used on Yahoo!Japan auctions soon after they go on sale, which is a nice price cut. :D Rakuten also sometimes offers them at discount.

Ah! And I should have mentioned -- the brilliant thing about Zuka DVDs is that recently they've all been region free. It's been a couple of years since they released a region 2 disc, back when they were switching to DVD releases from VHS. Someone is keeping track here, and marking the regions as soon as someone buys a copy to confirm the region.
