Dorian's hair in canon

Jan 02, 2010 14:15

Hello! I have a question, out of curiosity. Does Dorian ever put his hair up in canon? Or does he do it only when he is in drag (eg Emperor Waltz)? I am terrible with canon stuff, but I hope someone knows.

canon, dorian, questions

The only times I've ever seen his hair up were when he was cross-dressing. I am 99% sure he doesn't do it as a man.

Which is fascinating, if one takes it as some sort of demarcation line, or identity marker, he sets for himself--like some actors need a specific make-up or prop to get into character.

So the hair-do signals gender because men with long hair tend to leave it down, or to tie it in a ponytail with an elastic band, while chignons are a typically female thing--unless you are a samurai and/or want to look like a pineapple (I know one can't put the concept past Dorian, but I live in hope).

Which is the point of my New Year story, I guess: even if I wrote it as a piece of fluff prompted by sheer hair envy. I am deeper than myself @_@

Hmm up or down I have hair envy, even though I really know that naturally curly hair (my daughter gets it from her father) is a real pain.

Very nice fic I particularly like your description of Dorian's hair, yummy!

I'm pretty sure he always wears his hair down.

I feel like I recall one panel where Dorian has his hair pulled back because he's working on something - but I'm away from my books, alas. (And, really, how often does Dorian actually do any work?)

LOL! Maybe the "work" is painting his nails, which is appropriate, as nail polish in my hair, eek.

Uhm, actually, there is a scene where he paints his hair, isn't it, but I can't remember the hairdo because my brain and eyeballs have been bleached by the sight of his hideous tunic-like dress (I hate it when he puts on what he thinks is Grecian clothes and I think is derangement).

He had it pulled back in a ponytail tied with a ribbon when he was waxing piratical in "The Alaskan Front."

He also had it pulled up to jam under the wig in "Seven Days in September."

I'm not going to contribute anything helpful by saying I've never seen him put it up without it being un-disguise related, but I think he'd look hot with his hair up.
