Yes x4. Seriously, not only was I annoyed by the obvious choice of "Send in the Clowns" from A Little Night Music ("A Weekend in the Country" would have showcased almost the entire cast and been approximately a squillion times more interesting) but CZJ just did. not. impress. Hilariously, Sondheim said he wrote that song to hide the flaws of an untrained singer with short phrases, but I feel like Zeta-Jones just made it worse with her over-acting. I was getting whiplash from watching her.

Also pissed that Ragtime didn't get more time, but also it closed, like, right after the nominations were announced, so I think it was kind of Christiane Noll or zip.

I wasn't expecting to like Sean Hayes as host, but I actually totally did.

And yes, SERIOUSLY, Tony producers, GET YOUR SOUND SHIT TOGETHER.

Agree on all counts. I'm normally a CZJ fan, but she was not on last night at all. The head! I mean I tend to nod my head when I sing, but that was just something else. And she...paused...five times...in the middle of...each phrase...like she's...William Shatner...or...something.

I'm normally... pretty good with CZJ's interpretation of the role, but... I dunno, tonight she was off. I was hoping they would have done an abridged "Glamorous Life" so she and Angela could have shined, but... I guess I'm not a producer desperate for ratings.

...I mean, all in all, it was a lame year. So her spate of awful acting fits right in next to, say, Montego Glover.

If by "underwhelmed by" you mean "driven to disbelieving hysterics due to," then yes.

She was downright fucking awful. No sense of time signature. Off-key, when she wasn't forcing her voice so far into her throat that we couldn't hear her. Twitching her neck back and forth with her eyes so wide she looked like someone was constantly trying to stab her.

Oh, my God. Such fail. Such awful, awful, hilarious fail.

Well, I was trying to be nice, but yes, this. And the thing is I do like CZJ...just not here :P And quite frankly she looks too young to be a believable Desiree. I'm kind of glad Bernadette is taking over because she at least has the wrinkles that I imagine Desiree having.

I wish Angela had performed though.
