for over all favorite wine, i'd have to go with a dessert wine, which is kind of cheating because it is a sweeter wine with a higher alcohol content as well. One that i had recently was a "Clockburn" Fine Ruby Porto from Portugal.
But if we're not cheating and are going with actual "meal" wines, then i'd say i favor a good Shiraz ("Banrock Station" was what i had most recently that i liked) and a "Seventh Moon" Zinfandel.
You'll notice that all of these wines are red (... and cheap.. well the desert wine was 13 bucks.) I don't like white very much.
I don't really have a favorite thing to eat with any of them, but you can't go wrong with some blocks of cheddar cheese and grapes to go along with for me.

As a second, any type of Riesling will do.
And as a great runner up, King Solomon Jewish wine. 18.5% alcohol by volume, and nearly as sweet as straight grape juice. Lots of carbs though.
