I recently erm, obtained the complete studio works of Pink Floyd, and have been listening to a lot of their early albums - songs that I had never heard. Part of the inspiration for this was the just-okay VH1 series, "The Seven Ages Of Rock," which taught me more about Syd Barrett - the original founder of Pink Floyd - than I'd previously known ( Read more... )

I absolutely love the early Barrett-era Pink Floyd stuff (the stuff that sounds like fairytale childrens' music). It is utterly delicious to my brain. :D And honestly, I don't think Mr. Barrett was actually as "crazy" as people think -- I've actually wondered for a while if he was possibly autistic and just got overloaded by all the fame and such at a certain point. He definitely wasn't typical, that's for sure...

Well, keep in mind also that he partook heavily of the psychedelic era's chemical of choice... I have a feeling that he may have been introverted - possibly asperger's or autistic - and uninterested in being a "rock star." I'm sure the LSD enhanced his own inwardness and may also have contributed to his erratic behavior on stage - playing something other than the current song, etc.
