Don't try to knit more tightly - use smaller needles. Pulling the yarn more tightly is an invitation to hand pain.

Stuff some with catnip and use them as cat toys. :D

A friend of mine used some really nice organic cotton for some knit boobies. Was supposed to be nice to the skin.
