A Movie Confession....

Dec 11, 2009 11:40

I have a confession to make. I'm an HP fan, but I'm not necessarily an HP movie fan. In fact, some of you may consider it a sacrilege, but I haven't seen any of the HP movies since Goblet of Fire. Oh, I've seen clips here and there, but a full movie? No. When Order of the Phoenix was released, I'd intended to go, but I just never got around to ( Read more... )

And I'm not sure JKR did us any favors by giving Rickman inside info on the character. It probably softened the way he played him.

As for HBP, he spent too many scenes standing and watching w/o an iota of menace or frustration.

I wonder if it wasn't a combination of JKR's giving him the inside scoop, and his realization (my speculation here) that he's not really going to do anything with that info, since the movies have cut his character's scenes to the bone.

The last HP movie I loved was Prisoner of Azkaban, so I'm with you there. I
disliked HBP, GOF was all right and OOtP was just okay.

On a strange and sort of unrelated note, the SSHG photomanips that use Rickman and Watson creep me out.

Oh, they creep me out, too. I've never enjoyed those. :(

I figure they need two movies just to have all of ol' Dumbles' ghostly rambling included. *eyeroll*

I'm hoping that since he's dead in movie-canon now, they'll stop focusing on his relationship with Harry, but probably not. The King's Cross scene will probably be the equivalent of one movie's worth of info-dump.

I'm a cheery soul. I like the books. I like the film. I lilke Rickman Snapey. I like Lucius. Goblet of Fire was just overrun with totty.

I'm easily pleased, all rumours to the contrary.

I do like Jason Isaac's Lucius. In fact, he's the only Lucius I can see now. I think he just nailed the supercilious note that was needed for that character. But I have problems with the portrayals of the Black sisters. ~shrug~ At least from the pics and clips I've seen.

There is no other Lucius, bless him

Cissa was shit, but that's fine because she's clearly all wrong for Lucius. I liked Bella. Nicely batshit.

Essentially I go for the cream of British acting in supporting roles, rather than the three kiddies. I mean, Filch is one of our finest Shakesperean actors.

I can't stand New!Dumbles though. Shit diction.

No, there really isn't.

It was her hair in the pictures I saw. What on earth were they thinking? ~shakes head~

Yes! In all the clips, I've had to watch them repeatedly just to try to understand what Gambon was saying.

I just view them as separate things, really. I like the films - the only one I was really disappointed with, mostly due to the lack of Snape (a common problem throughout the films but it struck me as an especially bad choice there), was OOTP ( ... )

Again, I just see books and films as separate things.

I do, and I don't. As you said a bit later in your comment, I have picked up a few things from the movies. Jason Isaacs' version is now firmly Lucius Malfoy in my mind. The movie clothing is generally preferable to me, since like you, I never had a clear mental image of JKR's "robes". (And considering Snape's Worse Memory, I can't see him ever going without a shirt and trousers under his robes again, so that fit right in with my mental picture.)

A few years after DH is gone from the cinemas, if HP fandom is still around, I'd expect it to be more book-based again.

At least until they remake the movies. ~grin~

Excuse my nose, but...

You know what the worst thing is? In twentyfive years when they actually do remake them, we'll all be all upset about that too. :)

Oh, don't worry about your nose around here. ;P

LOL - It will depend on a lot of things. Twenty-five years is a long time, and I'm an old woman in fandom terms. ;)
