"Crazy Eights" in a crazy place!

Jul 25, 2007 21:25

Today, the mileage on Flora's odometer hit 88,888. (Flora is my 1995 periwinkle Toyota Corolla). I hear anything under 100,000 miles on a 12-year-old car is "low" mileage. That's good to know. ;) Anyhoo, because 8 is one of my lucky and synchronistic (sp?) numbers, I wanted to commemorate the mileage with a photo. (For more on the significance of ( Read more... )

Good luck, I hope you win!

I take pictures of my odometer too!

Thanks for the good luck wishes! :) It turns out that NONE of my 8 ticket plays won anything. :( But oh well -- it was fun while it lasted!

That's a trip that you too take pix of your odometer! *highfive* What are the occasions and/or the numbers that inspire you to take pictures? I've never even THOUGHT of doing this before, actually. I just kinda got inspired when I saw the eights. :D

Bahahaha!! I should've known it might be something like that! ;D I can't even recall when my mileage "went satanic", so I guess I didn't notice. BTW, I still find it weird to see digital odometers like yours. Somehow it just doesn't look like it belongs in a car! *chuckle* Wow, I sound old-fashioned, don't I?

Hi, just in from alexanderfans! I accidentally hit the "members" link but then decided to read the friends page. (Yay boredom!)

I had to comment when I saw this entry. 8 is a very very extremely lucky number for the Chinese. (And perhaps other Asian cultures, but since I'm Chinese, they're the only ones I'm sure about.)

(Meanwhile, 4 is the exact opposite. The 4th floor almost always has the cheapest rent in China and Hong Kong, while the 8th floor is always the most expensive!)

So.... go you! ;) Hopefully your day was very lucky!

Also, ahaha, if you ever see a license plate with mostly 8s, you can be sure that the owners are Chinese. x)

Hey there, fellow Heather and Alec fan! :) Thanks for your comment. I didn't know 8 was such a propitious number in the Chinese culture, but I think that's very neat! I'll have to ask my best friend about this, who is half-Korean, because now I'm curious if there are numbers like that in Korea.

I also had no idea about 4 being considered unlucky, especially since it's half of 8. I happen to really like the number 4, so I certainly wouldn't mind staying on the 4th floor in a Chinese hotel and saving some money! *grin*

BTW, I peeked at your profile page and you seem like an interesting and cool person, so I thought I'd add you to my friends list. Is that okay? (I don't like to do "stealth friending" without giving the person a heads-up first). If you want to friend me back, even better! ;D Oh, and I love your sexy icon of Westly! YUM is all I can say!!

Hehehe, the reason why 4 is unlucky is that the pronunciation of it sounds like the word for "death". It's true in both Chinese and Japanese, and quite possibly other Asian languages, but again, I don't really know about the other cultures so much.

And yay, new friends! :D I'd be happy to friend you. I think I'll do so right after I hit 'post comment'. ^__^

Mm, Westly. Mmmmm.
