This morning I decided that today would be the start of my tri-annual giving up smoking attempt.  This is about my 30th attempt to give up smoking and this time I shall be mostly using nicotine chewing gum.  This has not worked very well in the past, but it is about 10 years since I last tried it. Here is a list of methods I have used and the ( Read more... )

So what does Mr Carr's book say you have to do to stop smoking?

I tried to smoke a cigarette while I was drunk last week and nearly threw up.

Allan Carr has written the book so that it kinda convinces you that it is wrong. It is kinda a mind trick.

By convincing you that there is nothing to give up and repeatingly telling you that cause all these bad things happen to your health that you are not giving up anything cause and you are merely STOPPING yourself that is harming your health, wasting your money etc. It is quite repetitive but effective once you have read it, you are tricked into believing you can do it!!

I did six weeks after reading the book. One drunk night in the pub I had a fag.

I then gave the book another read about two months later and I gave up for two weeks. Nathan dumped me, had a fag.

Now I am nearly a fortnight but this is onl pure resolve as I couldn't be fucked to read the book again. It didn't work the first two times!

It seems you have tried everything except hypnosis. Have you thought about that?

I have been cold turkey for two weeks and I feel fucking great! Cold turkey all the way. The sense of pride you feel is amazing. Patches and Gums keep the addictive drug of nicotine in your system. You need to get it out and if you do that, three days later, it's gone and everything you are dealing is in your mind and routine.

YOU WILL NOT DIE IF YOU DON'T HAVE A FAG!
YOU WILL IF YOU DO AND CONTINUE TO DO SO!!!

I have been telling myself that for the last two weeks and it has helped actually but we all have our own ways of dealing with things.

I wish you the very best of luck. If I can kick it, you and ANYONE can!! :-)

Thanks, I didn't feel up for cold turkey this time. The gum seems ok for now, but I don't intend to buy another pack. This is just for the first few days while my body gets rid of all the horrible toxins in the smoke. I find that takes a bit of a toll on my body. After that's done I'll get rid of ther nicotine.
