Initial thoughts on the new Kate Bush song...in a cut in case you want to hear it first. I'll post a link to it later if I can, only I'm at work right now.
Your review is excellent... I mean, it makes me happy to know if you weren't a Kate fan, this won't make you change your mind... The way I interpret that is as the music is still very Kate Bush and she hasn't done a complete sell out cause she needs some extra cash. It sounds like she is making the music and putting it out there cause that is what she is good at doing. It's always been about the art and music for Kate really, which i think is a big part why she didn't tour hardly at all.
I doubt we will ever get a tour from Kate, but if she does tour.... OH MY GOD - I WILL BE THERE FRONT ROW CENTRE!!!!!!!!!!!!

After having a listen (and now repeating it) i must say I very impressed with the beginning, with just the keyboards and vocals. Vocally, she sounds very much like how she did in the Red Shoes. She still uses that slight delay/echo effect on her vocals - which she seems to have done since Hounds of Love... I can't recall hearing clean Kate vocals... personally - I feel this song didn't need the guitars. The drums are beautiful though.
I completely agree with what you said in your review. I won't be suprised if this is the opening track... and this isn't a song that was released with the intention of hitting number one on the charts. I'm listening to this track a second time and I am enjoying it more. Songs like this remind me how Kate influences me. She is like a sister from a past life (I have many of those in the music industry...)
I think you've pretty much said all i was going to say on the subject :) (and a fair bit more as well - i don't know all her earlier works as thoroughly as you do so comparisons are hard...)
i just think it says something that while people like Tori Amos, Sarah Mclachlan, Alanis Morissette, etc. have been releasing sub-par material lately and then Kate comes flying through saying "this is how you do it ladies"...i love it haha. Everyone thinks the song sounds like a different Kate album though lol.

I recorded it from digital radio so I have a really good copy of it, so if you need it, email me and I'll try and figure out a way to send it.
