YES POST THIS TO A COMM! It's a lovely little window into Spock's mind, esp since as you pointed out, it would be a strange question for him to ask given everything that he must have determined about the timeline in question. Also, it alternately made me WIBBLE FOR SPOCK and then SQUEE ALOUD.

:D

I ALSO WIBBLE FOR SPOCK. (Seriously, I'm plotting out this epically schmoopy fic which involves the trope of Jim getting more through that mindmeld than intended, and so he goes to NuSpock and is all, "Hey, in that other universe, we were having epically hot buttsex. We should get with that." And NuSpock is like, "No, that is illogical, because I already depend on you too much and if we have schmoopy soulmate buttsex, and something happens to you, I will BURN THE WORLD." [Scroll down to 'Spock and Kirk'] And Jim is all "WTF, that's stoopid!" But NuSpock will not be moved. And then they will lust helplessly after one another, and NuSpock will be sexily blunt about apologizing because he is not trying to tease his Captain, he's just taking some readings on this nebula. And it goes on like that until Jim is, like, captured and tortured or something, and NuSpock really does almost burn the world to save him, and then there is violent sex, after which NuSpock concedes that they might as well ( ... )

*squeee* Yes, post this to a comm!

LOVE that moment when Spock Prime first sees Jim. (And I'm glad I'm not the only one to go WTF at the question--why would Spock think baby!Kirk would be looking for him? o_0)

And it's followed by my favorite moment in the movie, when Spock is all "Allow me" and grabby hands...Jim is o_0...and Spock says "Our minds, as one" as if that explains anything.

As you can tell, I'm getting excited here.

I love all their scenes! Spock is just all, "I don't care if you don't know me, I still make this face ^-^ and want to smish you!"

Lol! It's ok, I get excited about mindmelds too. I love how Kirk reacts to it afterwards, almost crying and breathless. Chris Pine played that wonderfully. XD

Kirk's reaction to the mindmeld is lovely. And Chris Pine adds that touch of angst when he asks whether he (baby!Kirk) knew about his father. And then there is that bit of anxiety when Spock Prime doesn't leave Delta Vega with him. It's like they already have a special bond. (I really want to see Kirk have scenes with Spock Prime in the sequel.)

I haven't read the piece yet, but I do feel the need to answer the question with a response that reinforces a point I've made before: yes, post your writing around, and get more people to read it no matter how anxious or worried you are of anybody's opinion; you'll never improve your writing if you don't let people read it. Part of being a writer is learning to stop seeing criticism as something entirely negative; the simple fact is that you need those comments to point out both the cracks in your work that you've missed and possible ideas that can help you improve your style overall. If anyone starts making it a personal matter and tries to berate you specifically for anything about what you've created, ignore them; they're not the kind of people who will provide the kind of useful commentary that focuses on your writing and helps expand upon it, so just let them fall by the wayside and discuss things with the people who do contribute well.

Blargh, alright, I have posted! *raspberries at you* I know I have issues with this. The trouble is that I am pretty much incapable of divorcing myself from my writing. This, for example, is less than 300 words. I let it sit in my head for over a week, did two pre-writing exercises yesterday, and then once it was typed up today, I took about 3 hours to proofread and edit it before I sent to my beta, and all this when my beta is someone I have worked with before, known and loved for years, and trust implicitly. I'm just too OCD about it.

Also: check my latest post, I made you an icon. :)
