So tonight I performed my first solo...

...and it was... not bad, I guess. I'll try to post the video later. I stood up and promptly forgot all my choreography, so I improvised it. Everything I did was fine in and of itself, it just didn't have much variety. Which would not have been the case had I actually done what I had planned to do, which I probably could have done had I rehearsed ( Read more... )

I'm sure that you looked gorgeous whatever you danced, my dear! You could have started doing the funky chicken and everyone would have been rapt. ;) *hugs* Congrats on the first solo!!

With the veils I had, I'm sure that's probably true. XD

I'm glad I got it out of the way. And regardless of the screwing up, I really did like the soloing better than dancing with a group. Mostly because I have some kind of very stressful phobia about crashing into one of the other dancers when I'm with a troupe and going down in a fireworks-like blossom of flying beads and sequins. I'm constantly looking around and going 'Ok, Jessi is on my left and OH SHIT WHERE'S GRACE? I'M ABOUT TO CRASH INTO HER I KNOW IT. Ok, she's behind me on the left. And Cory is directly in front of me...'

Rug in the backyard sounds like an awesome idea. And you got up and DID IT. More than I can say about anyone else I know. :) *Hugs* Brava!!

The more I think about the rug, the more I like it. And craigslist is yielding some pretty cheap results.

Yeah, I'm glad I did it. If only so that my teacher can no longer introduce me by gushing out how this is my veryfirstsolo, omg!

Yeah, I'm glad I did it and got it over with if nothing else.

And yes, when my teacher has stage time to fill she generally throws together a random combination of her students and we perform group routines under the name "Yasmina's Yems." When I dance at SCA events, there's usually an open floor with live musicians, so it's me and 15 other dancers, each doing our own thing, but sometimes using tribal queuing to improvise some group work.

I totally missed out on the fancy dancing. Damn my work and new managers totally botching the schedules. Totally.

Meh, don't worry about it. the place was extremely crowded anyway. The restaurant owner told my teacher he could fit 150 ppl in there, so she brought 140, but I'd be surprised if we even managed to squeeze in 70.
