Considering I'm meant to be convalescing, I'm bloody busy...

I've been avoiding posting for a bit because I didn't want to cover and recover the same ground. And now I realise that as a result, I haven't covered any of it. Bum. So here goes:

Since back surgery mid August, I spent the first few weeks alternately lying down and standing up. It's astonishing how few activities there are available that are ( Read more... )

The second one is very very beautiful! The first one looks nice enough too, but I understand that rewiring is an awful messy icky job. Still, if you're in no hurry (particularly given you're not in a state to be shifting boxes) then you can hang on until you find the perfect place.

I hope you recover as soon as you healthily can.

I still like the one with the Aga, but feel the terror where the rewire is concerned.

The other one is also very priddy...

I guess, ultimately, you can change the Aga, rewire a house, but you can't move it to a quieter road.

The second house is on a main road, and we walked in thinking uhoh, here we go again... But it was originally built with secondary glazed sash windows - two windows about 8 inches apart, and I swear the house is as silent as a tomb. I stood next to the lounge window and a bus went past and I didn't hear a whisper.

No it's got nothing at all to do with the heating or the water fortunately. And there's a coal cellar with a shute which a fuel merchant delivers to, so it's truly handled the old fashioned way.

The problem in this house is that it's the only oven. And as there is currently no gas supply to the kitchen, bringing in a second oven will involve trying to get gas piped in without ruining the beautiful reclaimed parquet floor. You see what I mean about all these houses having attached headaches?

I would be interested to hear about your experiences with a solid fuel Aga - our fear is that the daily routine of riddling and re-filling doesn't fit a modern lifestyle where we both work, and we dread having to therefore go through a regular 12 hour re-heating delay because we've forgotten, and the damn thing has gone out again.

Sure thing, it'll be nice to see you.

Remind me a couple of days before though, or I'm sure to forget.
