Hmm I've been to a couple of balls at the Metropole. My recollection is that it is full of decaying decor, below average food, and sells cheap tawny port at £6.50 a glass, yet everyone somehow still thinks they're "it".

Hmmm... the WI experience... sounds familiar. I've helped my mum with some of their jumble sales and have helped out on the White Elephant (Miscellaneous Tat) stall. It's incredible what people will buy and how seriously 'tis all taken!
