[Guess who's out wandering Deck 05?

If you guessed a half-blind elven midget, you'd be right! Cyrus has managed to slip away from his guardian angel and is trying to figure his own way around. It's not easy. Everything is dark and blurry and focusing too hard for too long hurtsMaybe you bump into him while he goes around a corner, maybe you see ( Read more... )

[Toph has finally managed to figure out that Aang's room is on deck five. But that doesn't tell her where on deck five.

So here she is, reduced to wandering aimlessly and hoping that she'll hear him or something.

She's hardly paying any attention to where she's going, holding her cane at her side and instead using the wall to guide her.

Were those footsteps she heard just around the next corner? Though Toph starts to listen, she doesn't actually stop walking--]

Huh.

[Now that she can actually read numbers, that ought to come in pretty handy.]

So are you just gonna stay here until mommy comes to get you?

Or do you wanna go have some fun?

Is that a challenge?

I don't know. Maybe you'd find it challenging.

[She turns away, back towards the nearest elevator.]

Only one way to find out.

[And Cyrus is following after her, one hand trailing along the wall and the other held just in front of him to prevent any run-ins.]

Lead the way.

[And so she does, down the hall to the elevator where she presses the call button. All the while, her cane ticks from side to side as she taps the floor with it. The wall's right there. She doesn't really need to do it. But it does make her easier to follow.

Toph grins. She's taking him to gravity-deck. Really, being easy to follow is the least she can do, for now.

The elevator arrives and she walks in. It takes her a moment to find the level she's looking for and then they start to descend.]

First one to find the chicken wins.

Find the chicken? What chicken?

[Ping! The elevator has arrived! As the doors slide open, clucking can be heard in the distance.]

That chicken.

[Bye Stickless! Toph isn't waiting.]

[...a chicken.

Well, what the hell. Cyrus steps out into the room and quickly finds the wall, running his fingers along it as he walks. So far, this deck doesn't seem much different from the others. He's not sure which one they're on, because when he peeked in here before he lost his sight, he heard no chicken.]

[Aaaaand gravity shift.]

Ow!

[Toph isn't ready for it, not at all. She's only made it three metres from the elevator and now she's lying on a door for a floor.

It definitely didn't come as fast as that last time. She's almost sure of it.

But then, it has been about five months since she came down here. Whatever. It definitely wasn't that fast last time.]

[Cyrus isn't ready either and hits the wall - floor? - with a sound thud. The wind is knocked out of him, but after a few moments, he climbs to his feet.]

Well, this'll be fun. How normal is that shit?

... You mean normal-normal or normal-for-here?

[Wait, what is she doing? She should be finding the chicken.

Okay so maybe she can explain this deck just a little.]

This deck does that. About every minute.

It makes things more interesting.

[That sound? Is the sound of Toph crawling away down the corridor. Crawling is easier. It'll hurt less the next time she lands in a heap.

Except that she just found the giant cliff of an intersecting corridor.

Perfect.]

Interesting. [Scoff.] That's a good word for it.

[Cyrus keeps on forward, anticipating the next gravity shit. Since he's next to the wall, he ends up on his side on the new floor. This is going to occupy him for hours, and probably not in the good way.]

You want to chase a chicken on a regular boring deck? I'd have you beat in five minutes.

[Toph's heart isn't in the quip. She's remembering exactly what the problem was last time she came down here.

Three gravity shifts, and any kind of map she might've had of the place is so jumbled, she's not really sure which way the lifts are.

Yeah. Probably should've remembered that before she brought Stickless down here.]

You know, maybe some kind of referee wouldn't have been a bad idea.

You think? Here we are, two blind people on a deck with shifting gravity. This is a recipe for disaster.

[Cyrus sounds both pessimistic and amused all at once. He likely won't be the latter after a while of this.]

[Toph snickers. She knows disaster. This doesn't even come close.]

What're you saying?

Are you going to find the chicken?

Or are you going to stay here and be one?

[Chickens are like opossum-chickens, right? Things that're afraid a lot. Right?

Oop! Gravity shift.]
