So here's the Spanky report for Saturday, January 29. When we went to Auntie Vet on Wednesday, she pronounced his color good (meaning that he's no longer anemic) and told me I could reduce his Epogen injections to once a week. Yay! Spanky is staging a revolt. He will not eat the prescription diet. He won't eat food in the same bowl as the prescription diet. Either he is presented with non-prescription diet food, or he will not eat. And he must eat; the vet told me to let him eat anything he wants. So much for expensive prescription food. Maybe this is a sign he's healthier.

So the news is in...and it's good! He's doing really well. His red blood cell count is up, so I can reduce his injections to twice a week (down from daily). I can also reduce his potassium pills to once a day (down from twice). I'm so happy. It's excellent news.

Today was the follow-up visit to the vet for Spanky after ten days of vitamins and Epogen. They drew blood. He became Demon Cat from Hell. It was pretty much what I expected. We'll find out how he did when the test results come back tomorrow. But the initial news is good. He's gained a half pound (during the last year, he lost three). So now we ( Read more... )

1. I stopped by ironymaiden's place earlier yesterday to drop by holiday gifts for her and C. As C put it, I was successful in my gift giving. Administration of oral potassium supplement: successful.

First subdermal injection of Epogen, a hormone to stimulate red blood cell production: 100% successful, for both kitty and human.

Flaming hoop cleared.

Whew!

I was so sad and upset yesterday that I actually included my name in a post on LJ. I never do that. I've remedied the situation. On the one hand, it's not like no one who reads this knows who I am. On the other hand, it's been a thing for me to not connect my name too much with this journal so...take that for what you will ( Read more... )
