New York Trip Highlights

Jan 08, 2012 21:36

I've been wanting to post about the NY trip since I returned. With my health being what it's been, that's been nearly impossible. I've had no focus and significant trouble breathing. I decided that tonight, regardless of health, I wanted to post at least about the highlights.

I've already posted about my days with my brother and sister-in-law, theRead more... )

I'm glad you're feeling better. What a wretched thing to happen on such a nifty sounding trip!

First, you look fabulous!

So glad it was such a good trip. Even if you no doubt didn't get to do all you wanted, or see everyone.

And thanks for the tip on Vivienne Meier, what amazing photographs! How tragic that she didn't get known in her lifetime. Her work is just astonishing!

You know, my impression is that, based on her behavior, Maier was an enthusiastic hobbyist, but she didn't care much about people seeing her work. Given the hundreds of rolls of undeveloped film, either she didn't have the money to develop them or lacked the interest. It may have been the process that she enjoyed because, apparently, not even the people she lived and worked with knew that she was a photographer. I wonder, truly, whether or not she would have appreciated her work being shown in her lifetime. She may have been embarrassed. There's no doubt she was an artist and is worthy of the attention she's receiving now, but I wonder if it wouldn't have made her uncomfortable. She seems to have been a very private person. For myself, I'm grateful we've gotten to see her work. She had a wonderful, artful, and very democratic eye.

I know you weren't feeling well, but can I just say how delightful you look? You seem very happy. :)

Thank you! The weight loss has been great for me, and I'm always happy when I'm back in New York. :-)

You look gorgeous.
I also received that book for Xmas - from nwhepcat! And wonderful it is, indeed.

Thank you for the compliment! I was actually feeling pretty fat on the trip; it was female cycles doing it, but nothing felt like it fit right the whole time I was in New York. As for holiday gifts, yours from me--which has already crossed the country twice now--is on its way back to New York. Should be there in about a week. And yes, the Maier book is wonderful.
