Another Fine Weekend You've Gotten Us Into

On Friday, davidlevine and kateyule came up from Portland for a weekend visit. The precipitating event was the Uncle Bonsai 30th Anniversary show at the Meydenbauer Center, but it became the justification for a whole weekend of goodness.

Until kateyule mentioned Uncle Bonsai to me, I'd never heard of the group--but many of my local friends have. Turns out that they're ( Read more... )

*serious envy* Having been a fan for twenty-mumble of those thirty years, and having seen them several times here in NY (I miss the Bottom Line!), I would gladly have spent a couple of thousand dollars to see that show, had I had it to spare :-( Glad you enjoyed both the music and the show.

They were a complete and delightful surprise to me and I couldn't have enjoyed the show more. I just feel like I haven't been paying attention somehow, that I'd never heard of them until now. Glad I got that fixed! :-) You know that there's a new disc, right?

Yes, I do, thanks. It's on my to-be-acquired list (when the money sorts itself out). Still hoping for a pure live disc, though.

It sounds like you had a lot more fun this weekend than I did. Nice reviews of the fun.

I heard abbout Uncle Bonsai way back when I was new to the area, but I've never heard their stuff. I had no idea they were still active.

They broke up for a while and reunited just recently. I strongly recommend you listen to a couple of the cuts on the web site. There's some great stuff.

kradical loved them in college - may have even interviewed them for the paper.

Yup, I interviewed Uncle Bonsai for the paper and also reviewed their double bill with Christine Lavin at the Bottom Line. *echoes redaxe's lament* This would've been in 1988 or thereabouts.

I really do feel like the last person in the whole world to find out about them. Where the hell was I?

Clearly I missed this bus the first six or seven times it passed by. Glad I finally caught it.
