You know, I'm not sure. Honestly, taking Spanky to the vet is always so stressful for him that I was reluctant to go the last time or two. Not that that stops me from taking him, but I'm minimizing the number of trips we take because he hates it so very much. The vet did tell me to call whenever I had a question though. Perhaps I'll bring this up in the next day or two. Thanks for the suggestion.

That's pretty standard for old age no matter what the species. The day is tiring. The morning is easier. He's enjoying being an old cat in the way old cats do.

That's an excellent point. I'm unused to seeing him be an old cat so assertively. :-) Watching him this evening, I find that he moves faster than I've been thinking he does, but then he must rest for a bit. So that's okay. He's currently faced-planted by the balcony doors, snoozing away like an old cat will.
