Spanky's vet visit

Took Spank to the vet this morning for his three-month check up, post-new-medication regime. He was, as usual, a hellcat. The vet said that the crankiest cats live the longest, and that as long as he had fight, his prospects were good. The vet also said that he seemed to be responding well to the meds, the sub-q fluids, and all the rest of the

I'm sorry you have this to worry about, too. And I do know from having a liver mass...

With Spanky, I kind of feel like there's a "circle of life" thing going on. I know he's old; I can see the end coming, so there's a piece of me that kind of can't worry too much. The worrying happens when I have to be out of town or away overnight and can't keep an eye on him. Mostly, I'm just going to focus on giving him the best life I can, and letting him go when he's done.

Ahh, sweet Spanky. You've given him such a good life and will continue that. A kitty can't ask for more than that--but they will.

I'm sorry that the inevitable is in view. I know that it is hard -- hard for us not for them. I know we figured for Brandy (we were caught surprised by Loki which I still feel guilty about) that we aimed to give her the best time she could have in what remained. Lots of walks. Lots of primo food as long as she was interested. And trying to remember that it's harder on us then on them.

You know, he's doing okay. He's comfortable, he's still got plenty of fight in him, he's still eating and cuddling. Whenever the end comes, I know that I've done the best I can for him.
