Goose Watch

Today I went over to the window from which I usually watch the geese and met another goose-watcher. I told her that I'd seen the geese by the roadside today as I drove in. It turns out that there are goslings that I didn't see! My fellow-goose watcher made this report (this is as word-for-word as I can make it):

They're at the golf course today. [

We went kayaking on Lake Union Sunday, and stopped to eat lunch in a quiet nook right on the east end of Gasworks park. We just sat in the boats to eat, and four ducklings kept us company. Just like kittens and puppies, so cute when they're small!

This just about floored me, but I've seen stuff like this before out here: ducks and geese basically directing traffic. I think it's because we're so overdeveloped and because Canadian geese have pretty much taken up year-round residency. They're used to braving traffic and they're getting scary-smart about it. On the other hand, Seattle's such an environmentally conscious town that training its humans isn't all that difficult, quite frankly.
