...researchers have declared that they think they've found evidence of, as The New York Times describes it, the latrines of the Essenes. I suppose even aesetics have to relieve themselves somewhere.

I loved the comment about how it could have been a pottery factory. Not mutually exclusive, I thought to myself. If the Essenes were anything like early settlers elsewhere, anything broken or no longer useful went down the hole-pots, bottles, plates, etc. That's why bottle collectors are always thrilled to find evidence of early outhouses.

(And yes, I probably know more than I should about this entire topic.)
