How'd it get to be April?

I wonder this every time the months change: How did it get to be February, March, April? Simple answer: one day at a time.

And what have I been doing as the days fly by? Let's see:

Norwescon: I attended Norwescon as a fan this year, a novel experience. I got to attend panels I wasn't on, which almost never happens, and in each case brought its ( Read more... )

Reading all of what people wrote (here and other places) about Norwescon triggers so many things for me, but mainly the sin of jealousy. I stuck my toe back into the conwater at Pure Spec in Edmonton this past year, and while that water was fine, it was a really surprising experience along so many axes.

My elder son was about the age I as when I first attended an sf con; my daughter (the youngest) was about the age at which I first learned that such things even existed. My boy in the middle, autistic, had a better time than he has in many of the venues we've dragged him to.

At least their parents approve of "all that science fiction."

Hey, it's a place to start. Are there other conventions locally for you to hit?

There's a "Comic Expo" thing they have in the summer, which is much more a big commercial event run by a corporate entity on a huge scale-- not sure if it's connected to the Comic Con people. I've attended only to help out a buddy of mine, who owns a comic store and needs extra hands to cover all the shifts. In the end, it's not my kind of thing, in that it celebrates stuff that I'm not really connected to.

Although the Pure Spec Festival is a fan-run thing and thus smaller scale, it attracts more of the kind of crowd with whom my heart resonates.
