1) Oh, dear. You may need to hit the hardware store for some child proofing stuff. Or some Velcro strips. Either is a hassle.

2) Ceiling Cat!

Seriously, I can think of a couple of alternatives to take care of this. Would you mind if I came over and looked at it? If what I think is correct, I've already got the tools and stuff you'll need so the cost would be two or three dollars, total.

3) You might try picking up a package of "Sticky Paws" and distribute it around--I'll see if we have any left around. As you can see from the packaging (http://www.pioneerpet.com/product_images/29242hr.jpg), the manufacturer boosts it as an anti-scratching product, but cats really hate walking on it.

4) Sounds like you're ready. Do we need to find you a nifty belt carry-bag with a racing stripe?

5) Oh boy again. You'll want to avoid (pardon the pun) copy cat behavior, so that moves up the urgency level even more. Once again, can I offer some tools and time

Zeke sounds too adventurous -- and that must be a worry (as well as driving you crazy when he breaks things.)

I bet you have friends who can seal up that bottom cabinet -- but oy indeed! Have tried any of the Cat-B-Gone smell thingies that they sell in stores?

The lemon smelling dog one worked for Loki when she was a pup.

It sounds like Zeke would love to be a barn cat, if he but knew what a barn cat was. Alas, you do not live in a barn. Well, alas from his point of view.

Funny you should mention lemon scent. I use lemon juice to clean pennies in preparation for smashing them. I was cleaning pennies last night in prep for the trip. Zeke jumped on the table and couldn't stop sniffing the lemon water. I suspect that particular scent won't be a deterrent. Must think of something else. I'll research this scent idea, though; could work. Thank you!

Try black pepper, or a spicy pepper, or chili powder. Parmi likes to chew on electrical cords, and ESPECIALLY likes to chew on the plastic tubing you can put around electrical cords. Most recently, I've tried mixing white glue and chili powder into a paste, then slathering it on the cords. I haven't seen her trying it, but she didn't like sniffing it, so hopefully...

But don't just leave a spill of it out, you wouldn't want him to step on it, then groom himself and get burny mouth. Maybe let him sniff it to see how he reacts?

We too have an adventurous cat, who is undeterred by spray bottles, bitter apple, etc. But here are some things we've tried to keep her out of areas she shouldn't go into:

crinkled-up aluminum foil
sticky tape

There's also sssssscat, which I've never tried but is mentioned on cat forums. It's a motion-activated spraycan of air. I bet if you secured it in that nook, he'd stop going up there pretty quickly.

For us, the only thing that has worked so far is blocking access to areas of the house that present dangers to our cat. This means she gets locked up in one room when we're not around to supervise, and we keep a lot of doors closed even when we are.

Good luck.
