Some great recipes. The folklore link is interesting but the jury is out as to whether the Celts saw this as a new year (possibly not) or even a festival of the dead: May Eve is actually the British folkloric biggie for the dead coming back, although it does make more sense to have it in the darker, spookier time of the year. Modern pagans might have nicked that idea from the Catholics, in fact, for all we like to claim that the Christians swiped all our festivals. Not so much! But I hope everyone who celebrates is having a good one.

I'm all about historical pedantry, mind, but not when it interferes with pumpkin carving, dressing up, and scaring small children!
