I skipped touring the inside of Versailles (don't remember why). We wandered the gardens and I remember thinking how freaking sterile the whole place was.

In my experience traveling internationally, there's a moment when travel exhaustion and culture shock (which had until then been unnoticable) really kick in. Some down time always helped.

Even this taking-its-toll day sounds marvelous. Hope you're having a wonderful day of whatever!

Le Weekend is not the time to visit Versailles. Too many, ahem, tourists. :)
The gardens, grounds, fountains are lovely but what I loved was wandering through the parks and alleys of versailles. Taking a picnic. Enjoying le Petite Palace and the farmhouse where Marie played at dairymaid.
Don't bother with it this trip though. Next time.

Sunday, market day!
Have fun.
