In all seriousness, some of it simply has to do with circumstances. In this case, the film was shown in the smallest of the Uptown Cinema's three theaters, we chose to sit toward the back, and we found a group of seats next to two that were marked "Reserved." Did we know they were reserved for the director? Nope. But at a festival, in a small venue, the chances were much higher than normal. It just kinda happened.
