In from the cold

I can say, with only mild hesitation, that we have survived the effects of the Lightning Strike o' Judgment* (Although our ethernet card - r.i.p. - wasn't so lucky) AND the Verizon FiOS installation. I now have a spiffy new moden/router combination thing on my desk, an adorable little usb wireless jiggy on the children's computer and my trusty ( Read more... )

I love ALL the buckets! Some days I'm just more in the mood for one color over another. The next day I may be excited about the wee little sifter, who knows? Toys are good! Don't make me pick a favorite!

And thank GOD for the end of technical woes. A world without high-speed internet access in not one in which I care to live.

Does this happen every May then? Next year I'll leave the country.

(I like green buckets and I'm sure someone somewhere hates that as well);-)

It seems that fandoms everywhere experience some sort of rumble in the spring. The hypothesis is that once school and University lets out for the summer there are a lot of fangirls with time on their hands and nothing better to do than stir the pot.

*shrug*

I guess I've gotten used to it but it's still annoying.

(Green buckets are good! Hold fast to your multi-bucket love...it's a big sandbox and lots of buckets are needed.)

It makes me glad that I'm way out on the fringes of DW fandom, where I'm quite content with my yellow bucket (who I say is Rose, in this example) and just wish that there was more sand to put in my bucket. I mean, new sand, not old sand that I've already played with and . . .

Okay, yeah, have probably killed the metaphor dead by now. But, yeah. At least from what little I've seen, those Rose fans are just going "la la la, Martha doesn't exist, la la la", while those Martha fans are too busy being defensive to do anything. Silly fans. [shakes head]

Glad to have you back--have missed you on the flist!

Hey! Fandom is serious business...don't think you can just come in and play how you like! Sides must be chosen, manifesto's adhered to, finger pointing exercises are held daily...

*rolls eyes*

And it really is just the extreme on both sides. Most people seem quite happy in the middle which gives me hope that this will all be yesterdays news fairly soon.

*clings*

I don't want to leave again..It was awful.

*shudder*

BtVS - Oh, grow the hell up. Not everyone likes your brand of snowflake and for shame trying to use a violent, degrading and life-threatening act as a metaphor for your hurt feelings.

IAWTC. *nodnodnod*

FanLib - Yeah, not going over quite as you expected, eh? It's all been said far better than I ever could but I am amused at the naive thought that an entertainment industry that has decided that smoking needs to be taken into account when assigning movie ratings is not going to take some sort of action when the right wing starts noticing Harry/Draco/Snape/Centaur BDSM fics** on a "mainstream", entertainment industry affiliated site. So. Cute.

Rule 34: Somewhere on the internet, there will be porn of that very thing. So I would not be surprised to see H/D/S/Centaur. If I were, y'know, to go looking for that. Which I wouldn't. B.c the last part of that 4-way makes me shudder. Animalistic/animals in bad ways in fic makes me weep.

I can honestly say that there is nothing that would surprise me in fandom/fanfic. Which makes me wonder if FanLib is as open, and will stay as open, as it purports. From what I've seen the quality is on par with ff.net but I'm still rubbed the wrong way about the whole thing. It isn't even the "for profit" angle, it's the "outsider coming in and appropriating an art form without understanding it or appreciating the social network that surrounds it" aspect.

Then again, I'm contrary.

Have you seen the latest post on Henry Jenkins blog which is the interview with Chris Williams from FanLib? I gnash my teeth, I do.
