I have always liked to read before going to sleep, it helps me get to sleep at night. Often I will try to keep reading way past the point when I should just turn of the light and close my eyes (especially when the book I am reading has really long chapters [like Love in the Time of Cholera, which I am reading now], I do not like to stop reading mid ( Read more... )

I think it's a tradeoff, really: sometimes you're like "And remember when Urbino falls to his death and then that troop of Kobolds carry his body away to make stew?" and everybody's like "Uhhhh," but books that contain that ol' magic dimension, that inflates like a pig's bladder when you're dreaming or sometimes when you're reading or just sitting in the right mood, those are the most extraordinarily vivid reading experiences. Like, you can go through Dostoevsky and come out feeling like you know so much more about humanity, but you come out of GGM feeling like you can see new animals and Guenter Grass feeling like there's tiny crystal golems tunneling up through your walls.

i guess i should not be surprised when i find out that you also do soemthing that i do. i should start all my entries with "holly and i both..." as that is pretty much always the case.

I wake up with my thumb in my book all the time. I usually end up falling asleep with one sentence left on the page and then when I start reading again I don't remember that and about half way through the first page I
fuck it this is a boring comment
