You definitely went the darker route. I like the message of tenacity, even as you leave the baby to die. I think that last paragraph is my favorite overall of the story, actually. Even if it's a bit darker, I enjoyed it (and I think I understand the whole leaving the death off screen bit now).

I'll have the next exchange up probably tomorrow after I turn in my last final. It'll be hard to beat an idea as good as this one was...
