I think there needs to be a day where we only talk in quotes from the original Dune movie.

But then again, maybe I'm just determined to say, "MY NAME IS A KILLING WORD" at work.

work, movies

It's awesome. Awesomely bad. But awesome.

David Lynch being very weird with Frank Herbert's byzantine book.

Ok, on this day, go to a Mexican restaurant with your friends. Order a bottle of mezcal and make sure you end up with the worm. Next time someone asks you to pass the salt, refuse. When they ask why, you cackle "He who controls the worm, controls the spice. He who controls the spice, controls the UNIVERSE!"

Thanks, I'll be here all week.

Aw. Not nearly as fun.

It's better like:

BOSS

Uh, can you give me a status update on the project? I need to put it in the weekly review.

EMPLOYEE

Some thoughts have a certain sound, that being the equivalent to a form. Through sound and motion, you will be able to paralyze nerves, shatter bones, set fires, suffocate an enemy or burst his organs. We will kill until no Harkonnen breathes Arakeen air!

i usually just fulfill this sort of urge by changing my status message on gmail.

my current status is "lousy fish biscuit."

but it could just as easily be "taste my gom jabbar" after the couple of eye-roll-inducing phone calls i've gotten in the last ten minutes.

Yah. That's probably for the best.

Still...Long live the fighters!

I am sooo in! This is my pre-trial mantra:

I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.

And I used to mutter this quietly to myself when I was getting ready to "expand my mind" back in the SLC days (I'm such a dork): It is by will alone I set my mind in motion. It is by the juice of Sapho that thoughts acquire speed, the lips acquire stains, stains become a warning. It is by will alone I set my mind in motion.

Love the quotable Dune!

"...I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when my fear is gone I will turn and face fear's path, and only I will remain."

Some parts of Dune are more quotable than others. But it's still awesome.

I was always fond of this variation:
http://www.goats.com/archive/990517.html
Beer is the mind-killer. Beer is the little death that brings total obliteration. I will face my beer. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. When the beer has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

And Damn You for feeding my hunger for seeing that damn movie. I was lucky enough to watch it before I read the book, so I don't hold the hate that some do for it.
