So, just like most of you I, too, did not get to go into the hallowed halls of the San Diego Convention Center this weekend (though, unlike the rest of you, I did get to go to the Gaslamp Quarter and the Marriot and stuff like that). However, the wonderful people on Tumblr have posted a link of video from most of the major panels as well as the ( Read more... )

What did you do outside? I spent about half a day taking my sister (who didn't have a pass, either) around the outside stuff. We did the Grimm shop, and that was SO fun!

I missed Grimm (my editor wasn't interested) but I saw the Blacklist and Dracula previews, and I also went to the Ender's Game exhibit. There was also the Fandango photo booth, but sadly I did not win free tickets. That would have been nice. I'll put up my pictures tomorrow when I can resize them because they're big. I also donated blood over at the Omni and then spent some time at the X-Box Gaming Lounge at the Marriot.

There really wasn't a whole lot of stuff outside this year. The biggest complain I got from everyone (from those who got to go inside the con as well as those like me who couldn't) is that it seemed smaller this year. A lot of people weren't happy that there was less swag inside and outside the con, and a few people who were only there on Sunday were pissed the Vikings thing over by the Convention Center trolley station was being taken down before the con ended. It was really weird this year.

I agree that there was less swag, but I got more actually good stuff in the two days that I was there this year than the entire previous two years put together. But then again, I took one day to get in line for the exhibit hall at like 7:30 AM and headed straight for the Fox, Lionsgate, WB, and Marvel booths when the doors opened, and that's when I really hit the jackpot, and people were giving out t-shirts and fairly large-sized action figures and all that good stuff.

I think part of the reason it seemed smaller is that they let in more and more people every year, so a smaller and smaller percentage of the con attendees can actually fit into any given place at once.

See, you got inside. For those of us stuck outside we got pretty screwed. There used to be a lot more stuff in teh Gaslamp Quarter but Saturday there wasn't a lot of swag and Sunday there was practically none. If you couldn't get into the con it kind of sucked this year.

That wasn't what I meant, not exactly. Let me try and explain better. When I went on Sunday last year, there were more people giving out swag, more people in line for the stuff outside the con...there was still a crush of people. This year on Sunday, things were packing up before noon. Like, my editor and I wanted video from the Viking thing and when we got there at 11:30 is was mostly dismantled. It was like walking through a regular Sunday at the Gaslamp crowds wise this Sunday. That's what I mean by smaller. It's like most of the companies and movies and stuff didn't care about anyone who couldn't buy a ticket. I know inside the con it was probably different, but outside? It really sucked this year.
