01 - First Impressions.

The alarm goes off, scaring off the birds surrounding the oak tree outside the residence of the Chois. The young teenage boy all covered up in his bed groan. Summer was done, and Autumn's arms are slowly reaching out. The young boy groggily sits up and pushes himself to go and get ready. First day of school means first impressions -he needed to look presentable and actually nice. He didn't want his time in this school to be the same as his last -being left out; alienated.

This young man was going to be different this year -he says to himself as he looks at himself in the mirror with determined eyes.

He was the new student. He was tall, (kind of awkward looking actually) he had big eyes, and his hair was kinda shaggy -but in a good way. His nose was pointy, his hands were bony and big, and he was looking over the crowds of his new school. He was standing in front of the gate, not really ready to get in but he does, after a few minutes. Well, he needed to. He'd rather go to school anyway, than do nothing in his house.

His name was Minho.

The bell rings -it's time for break. Since Minho had introduced himself as someone who's interested in sports, some of the guys went up to him and told him to maybe go and try joining in the football club. They needed new members anyway, since a lot of the old members graduated already. The young man nods, and says he'll go and try out. And then, they're talking about hobbies, and places they want to go, and Minho realizes, wow. He's actually making friends.

Minho feels nice, and kind of warm. Most of the time, people didn't even try to approach him. He looked too cold, too much. It feels really good that this place was different.

He's starting to like this school.

He and his new friends decide to go out and maybe buy some food. Break was at least for another ten minutes, and they felt hungry. So he goes out of the room and then accidentally bumps into someone. He stumbles back a bit, and boy in front of him -with glasses and bangs all over his face.

"Wow, watch it," the smaller boy says.

Minho blinks at that, and furrows his brows.

"Excuse me? I think it was you, who should watch it. Bangs and all," Minho replies sternly.

The boy looks him in the eye.

"You makin’ fun of my hair, hot-shot?"

Minho's eyes are everywhere -he feels embarrassed, they're making a scene.

"Look, kid, just forget we bumped into each other, how about that? Yeah, I think that sounds great. Bye."

And Minho disappears, making his way to his newly acquired friends. His friends laugh, and chuckle. He then asks, "Who was that anyway?" "His name's Lee Taemin, Student Council Vice-President, Dance Club President, Student Peer Counselor, Cultural Festival-Coordinator and he substitutes in the newspaper from time to time," one of his friends say. Minho's wide eyes get a little bigger hearing all of that.

"Woah, someone's a little busy I'm guessing?"

They laugh and chuckle. Then someone adds, "Sometimes he's called 'The Prince', although he doesn't act like it," they laugh again. And then they start talking about girls and things teenage boys usually talked about.

( Although Minho stayed quiet for the most part, he was a little more curious about that 'Taemin'. )

On the other hand, Mister Lee Taemin, after the whole bump, continues to walk down the hall, going through three different classrooms, collecting papers from their respective class presidents. He thanks each of them with a beautiful smile, in contrast to his very cold and harsh attitude earlier. Taemin goes down a set of stairs and makes his way to his last stop -the Student Council's Office. Before he the doors, he fixes his tie, under a vest with the school's logo over his right chest. He pushes up his glasses and clears his voice.

Opening the door, he heads over to the President's room, and gives the set of papers.

Minho's sitting in his geometry class, when he spots a familiar face. It was the boy from earlier. What was his name? Right, the Taemin boy. Minho blinks, they were in the same year? Really didn't look like it though. He shrugs, he was so sure the cranky kid would be younger. Maybe he is? Only he advanced? Minho shrugs in his head, when the teacher calls him. He shoots up.

"Mr. Choi, would you please write on the board the answer, on why triangle ABC is a right triangle, based from the given answers,"

Minho gulps. He's searching in his head, and he remembers. He sighs in relief, and walks over to the blackboard, writing what he thought was correct.

"Hm, almost got it. Could anyone please help Mr. Choi? ..." No one in the class seemed interested enough. Minho slips back to his chair, second from the back, second line from the right.

"Alright, I'll just call someone." Mr. Kim scans the room, and he calls on Taemin. Taemin sighs, and stands up, he puts in the correct answer, and sits back down.

Minho finds himself staring. He sighs, and goes back to 'listening' to Mr. Kim.

Taemin felt that. Felt that someone was staring. He doesn't know who -but he's sure it was someone. It was different. Different from the usual looks he gets. It was a bit stronger -but not angry. It was also gentle, like it was curious. He shrugs that feeling off though, it might just be him.

(Besides, it was kind of creepy.)

The week of orientations and stuff like that ended quick, Minho's joined the football club and everything's been going smoothly. Practices already started, everyone's warming up for the start of the year. Everything seems to be good and normal, until the following Tuesday.

Lunch was nice. Minho was eating with his friends and chatting around. One was Jonghyun -he was part of the football club. Sometimes he plays, most of the time he doesn't. He was the one who told Minho to come try out, and he's actually pretty nice. A goofball really, but he's funny -Minho likes that. Another is Kibum, or well, he likes being called 'Key'. He's not actually part of the football club, but Jonghyun sticks to him so he's got no choice but to be with him. Jonghyun tells Minho that they've been friends since forever. (Although sometimes, Minho catches Key staring at Jonghyun with eyes seemingly telling a different story.)

Then there's Eunhyuk- he's a senior actually, and pretty cool. He's also part of the dance team of the school and sometimes helps around in the cultural festival. Then there's Donghae who-- Minho hears something smack on the ground. He quickly turns his head to see the young boy from earlier, on the floor his food under him and a cup of orange juice on top of his head, now all over his hair and face. A bunch of seniors were laughing, and were about to leave, when Minho goes up to them and call them out.

"Hey. You've got a mess here. You should clean it up."

Key and Jonghyun were helping Taemin up, whose face was blank and straight.

The seniors turned around -there were three of them, and they went up to Minho, who was just as tall as them. Minho stood his ground, eyes turning a little dark. The three of them felt superior -they were seniors and there were three of them, versus this lanky tall kid, who looks like an angry puppy... or frog or something.

"How about you do your hyungs a favor and clean it up for us, frog-boy. We got no time for that little piece of shit, and you don't want to join him there do 'ya?" The 'leader' of the trio said, closing the space between him and Minho, only leaving a few inches. Minho's been in more fights that he could remember -he could handle this.

Maybe.

Before he could even answer, a hand stops him. Taemin looks at him, his glasses are in his hands, so Minho got a good look of those eyes -they were ice cold and fierce, but it also said something else. A thank you?

"He's new. Don't bring him in your games. You were leaving right? You had your revenge. I'm shit. Get out."

Taemin says, getting in between them. He was a tad bit shorter, but the three seniors just shrugged and went. "We're watching you, frog-boy." The last one of the trio says, before exiting the cafeteria. Taemin sighs and turns, and looks at Minho again.

"Stop acting like you're a hero. It's annoying." And he leaves just like that. Minho's struck by what he just heard.

"What..." Jonghyun pats him on the back and Key just rolls his eyes. Eunhyuk and Donghae had already gone to the Student Coucil Office to report what happened.

Minho's face scrunches up to a confused look.

"What the actual fuck!?"

Minho wasn't gonna let this slip without knowing where that came from. Key then proceeded to tell him all about it. "Minho, you should even be surprised that he acknowledged the fact you kinda exist. He's not really like that actually." Minho looked at him, baffled by this. That Taemin wasn't just a prince, he was... some sort of deity or something. He angrily takes a bite off his sandwich. ('Wow, manners Choi.') "Look, that's just how he usually is. He's kinda rough, but, he has his really good moments too. You just haven't seen them yet." Key then pokes at his salad.

Jonghyun then adds, "Actually, he hates being stood up for. It kinda makes him feel... I don't know. He just doesn't like it."

Minho gulps and almost screams at them. "Well I'm not gonna take it. Look, I was five seconds away from getting my ass kicked. I'm going to talk to him about it. This week will not end, or even this month, will not end without him saying my well-deserved 'Thank you'."

The discussion ends at that, with Key and Jong shrugging.
